👋 Good Morning, Apex! Today is Thursday, January 29, 2026 and this is the 56th consecutive weekly issue of The Peak Weekly.

Happy half-birthday to me and happy full birthday to Oprah.

I have an exciting announcement to share. I have been working on an Apex App for a while and it’s getting pretty close!

Of course the newsletter every Thursday helps with sharing news and updates; but what about when cool things happen throughout the week that you might want to know about? Or how about an easier way to find things, rather than attempting to navigate the Town’s website?

Introducing: Your Daily Peak

The goal is to build a bunch of really valuable tools all within the app, leading off with any important announcements and the day’s events.

The current tools are:

  • Daily event updates

  • Town Alerts/Notices

  • Salem Street Stories (work in progress to support downtown businesses during construction)

  • Flock Camera Map

  • Council Vote Tracker

  • How Do I…

  • Parks & Rec (find parks by name, amenities, etc.)

Other tools that are in the pipeline include:

  • Local Deals

  • Chatbot

  • DOT or Not

  • Restaurant Inspection Scores

  • and more…

It’ll be available to download from the App Stores probably in about a month. If you want to give it a test drive right now, though, you can see it here.

(It’s built as a mobile app so I recommend looking at it on your phone, although you technically can look at it on your computer too; it just won’t look as cool).

If you have any ideas for some other tools to build inside of the app, please email me with those ideas: [email protected]

(Note: I’m behind on email. If you have emailed me in the past week and I haven’t responded yet, please don’t be offended. I will get back to you - and anyone who emails with ideas for the app - this week!)

Miscellaneous Info:

🎨 Apex Public Art Guide
The Town published a new "Apex Public Art Guide" that maps and describes publicly accessible sculptures and murals across downtown, greenways, parks, and other community spaces. See it here.

🧿 Marbles Expansion
Wake County has partnered with Marbles Kids Museum in Raleigh on the largest expansion in its history. The second floor will add 2,986 square feet, including a rooftop courtyard with a kid-size racetrack for play and hosting events. Read more here.

🏃 Run the Peak
The Apex Chamber’s 5th Annual Run the Peak event will be the biggest and best one yet! This is a great opportunity for walkers and runners of all ages. There will also be a Fun Run for kids led by WakeMed and the YMCA. The race will take place at Apex Town Hall on March 7th, with the 5K/10K races beginning at 7:30am. The Fun Run will begin at 9:30am. There will also be a health fair with a variety of vendors located around the Town Hall parking lot. Register here.

Misc. Civil News:

Tuesday’s Council Meeting
Due to weather, Tuesday’s Council Meeting was conducted over Teams. It was shortened with no public comment. The Consent Agenda was adopted and the rest was continued to the next meeting. View the Consent Agenda items here.

🏭 Today’s Council Work Session
A Town Council Work Session will take place today at 3:30pm in Town Hall.

Originally, this was planned just for Fire Department and Police Department updates with an ending time around 5pm.

But based on discussions in Tuesday’s Council Meeting, carryover discussion from last week’s data center presentation has been added to this work session, so it will likely end an hour or two later.

🌳 Downtown Salem Streetscape
Construction has begun. Salem St from Saunders to Chatham is reduced to one lane, flowing southbound only during construction. It will remain this way until the project wraps up in October. The intersection of Salem & Chatham will be a four-way red flashing light for about a month; this should be treated as a four-way stop. Project details here.
