Quick Intro:
About 3 years ago, I was grocery shopping with my wife at Lowe’s Foods and I was wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey.
A man passing me in one of the aisles saw my jersey and said, “Go Cowboys!”
And I said… “Thank you.”
I suppose in my mind he was going to say something like, “Cool jersey,” so I had my thank-you locked and ready. But that’s not what he said.
To recap: He said, “Go Cowboys.” And I said, “Thank you.” 🤦♂️
I still think about that like once a week.
If you have ever had one of those embarrassing moments that comes back to haunt your memories every so often, I want to share these words of wisdom with you (and myself):
“I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.”
Shout out to Maya Angelou for that reminder. The little things we say or do don’t really leave a lasting impression on others like we think they do. How you make someone feel, though… that’s what really sticks.
Speaking of Maya Angelou, what a great segue into International Women of Color Day, which is this Saturday, March 1.
Fittingly, sitting right at the transition from Black History Month into Women’s History Month, this day is designated to raise awareness of the challenges that women of color face.
I just want to take this opportunity to honor the women of color who may not receive the level of public recognition equal to their contribution to the industry in which they serve or the community in which they live.
Fun fact to wrap up the intro: Did you know… though not originally from North Carolina, Maya Angelou lived in Winston-Salem, NC for more than 30 years and was a teacher at Wake Forest University.
Miscellaneous:
🪐 We Live in Outer Space
Tonight and tomorrow, SEVEN planets will be visible in the night sky. The best time to see the “Parade of Planets” will be looking south between 8-9pm Thursday & Friday night. Venus, Saturn, Jupiter and Mars will be visible with the naked eye. Uranus and Neptune will also be visible with a telescope.
🏒 Street Hockey Rink
The new hockey rinks at Apex Community Park have moved along quickly! Ribbon cutting ceremony expected to take place some time in March.

We’re in the middle of Restaurant Week (through Sunday). Here is a map of participating restaurants and their deals.
🐶 Wake County Animal Center
The Wake County Animal Center is 21 days into their 30-day quarantine due to an outbreak of Strep zoo. If you’re inclined, make a donation here.

This week, I’ll be honest… I’ve been a little tied up with work and didn’t get a chance to spend a lot of time researching this. I also haven’t received much info on new businesses.

🔄 Town Council Meeting Recap
Last week’s Town Council Meeting kicked off with engagement from the Apex Youth Council and was followed by a utility billing review update (results from the review expected mid-March) from Town Manager, Randy Vosburg, recognition of Women’s History Month (March), and an update on the Big Branch - Force Main project. More details in this video from Town Council Member, Ed Gray.
🛣️ Capital Project Prioritization
Earlier this month, the Town Council gathered for two full days in their annual retreat. One of the topics discussed was prioritization of the Town’s Capital Projects where the highest priorities, based on feedback from the public budget survey, are: Salem Streetscaping, the Olive Chapel / BBQ intersection, Center Street / Chatham sidewalks, investment into Apex Fire, and redoing The Depot parking lot. More details about Capital Projects and other topics discussed during the annual retreat can be found at Town Council Member, Terry Mahaffey’s, blog.
🚔️ Apex PD Flock ALPR Program
Our new Police Chief delivered a presentation on the Flock Automated License Plate Reader Program. The Flock system is a toool that helps law enforcement identify stolen vehicles, respond to AMBER/SILVER alerts, and track vehicles connected to criminal activity. Read about it in the Mayor’s Facebook post, or watch the Flock presentation from last week’s Town Council Working Session Replay (starts at the 58-minute mark).

Cookies was found stray, hopping by the side of the road in pretty rough shape. He’s doing great now but needs his forever home!
Elektra was also found as a stray. She’s a bit shy but has a lot of love to give to her future forever home.

💧 Cary/Apex Water Treatment Disinfection
Beginning March 1 thru April 10, the Cary/Apex Water Treatment Facility will temporarily stop adding ammonia to its water disinfection process. This is a normal process, but those who use water for kidney dialysis machines, fish aquariums or other chlorine-sensitive uses should be aware. Some hydrant flushing may occur at night. More info.
