Miscellaneous:

🚧 Extended Road Closure
Olive Chapel Road near Ashely Downs Drive will be closed for an extensive length of time due to a large sink hole from yesterday’s storms. This is an NCDOT road and they will be handling all detours and repairs.

🏈 Old Wake Rivalry Game
On Saturday, August 23rd at WakeMed Soccer Park, it’s Apex vs. Cary in The Old Wake Rivalry: Centennial Celebration. Mayor’s Video | 🎟️ Tickets

🚒 Apex Fire Academy
The Apex Fire Department is seeking dedicated individuals to join the upcoming Firefighter Academy. No experience required; apply by August 31.

🤖 AI-Powered Private School
Alpha School, an AI-powered private school, is preparing to begin its first fall semester in Raleigh. The new Raleigh campus comes with a $45,000 price tag and will offer K-3 for the first year of operation with plans to expand to K-8 during its second year.

🍖 Eat BBQ, Support Lufkin
Today is Spirit Day for Lufkin Road Middle School. City Barbeque in Cary will donate 20% of all sales today to benefit Lufkin students, teachers, and staff.

🥫Food Drive at Peakway Taps
From Monday August 11 through Sunday August 17, Peakway Taps will be collecting food donations for the community on behalf of Western Wake Crisis Ministry.

🚤 Help Clean Up Jordan Lake
Clean Jordan Lake is a nonprofit that organizes trash cleanups around Jordan Lake. On Saturday, August 16th from 9am-12pm, they will be hosting a public cleanup to address some of the trash that was deposited after recent flooding. Learn more here, then RSVP here.

🌳 Trees for the Triangle

Salem Street Pub is serving up Spiced Honey Bakery’s newest and limited Ube Coconut Cheesecake. It’s filled with ube and topped with coconut cream (oh, and it’s purple). I didn’t know what ube is so I looked it up: a vibrant purple yam, primarily known for its use in Filipino desserts. I need to try it.
 

Civil News:

🛤️ Tingen Road Crossing
A plan has been created for a tunnel. See it here. Town staff plan to request a recommendation from the Planning Board on Monday and a decision from Town Council on Tuesday.

💡 Serve on an Advisory Board
Apex has vacancies on four resident advisory boards - 1 regular member and 3 youth. These boards provide input and recommendations about key policies, programs, and initiatives that affect our community. Apply by Aug 13.

🛣️ Apex Peakway SW Connector
The overall project is about 30% complete. You can see some updated photos of the project here.

🏚️ Tunstall House Update
A renovation of the interior and exterior, including the grounds on the 1-acre site, are expected to begin in September. The Senior Center parking lot will be closed at this time. Details here.

💸 Greenway Design Grant
Town of Apex has been awarded a $200,000 state grant for design and engineering services under the Great Trails State Program. This grant will support the Reedy Branch Greenway project which you can learn more about here.

🚦Humie Olive / Blazing Trail
Expected to be fully functional around August 15.
