👋 Good morning, Apex! Today is Thursday, April 17, 2025 and this is the 15th consecutive weekly issue of The Peak Weekly.

Here is what’s inside today:

📝 Intro: Quick thoughts from yours truly

📂 Miscellaneous: Some town-related notes that didn’t fit anywhere else

🗓️ Things to Do This Week: Events and activities this coming week in and around Apex

🏢 Local Business: The latest in local small business news

🏛️ Civil News: The latest from our local government

🏃 Recreation Programs: Upcoming featured programs from Parks & Rec

🐶 Animal(s) of the Week: Featured animals looking for a good home

⏪️ ICYMI: A few things worth mentioning again, just in case you missed it

👀 A Look Ahead: A quick peak at things to know beyond this week

Intro:

I made something. And I was wondering if you could help me test it.

The Peak Promptly is a new AI Chat Agent who knows everything about the Town of Apex.

Hit him with a prompt (any question about Apex) and he will respond… promptly.

Note: he might get some things wrong because he is still learning. But as of today, he’s trained from 35 different sources and 3,526 pages of documentation all about Apex. But there could be missing info, or some of those sources could have outdated information. But he will get even smarter over time.

So if you have a few minutes to spare, take it for a test drive! It might be a little glitchy/slow at first, but I’ll work through all of that.

(I can see your prompts on the backend and will use this for testing and improving the accuracy of its responses)

Miscellaneous:

🗓️ Good Friday
Town administrative offices and facilities will be closed on Friday, April 18th, in observance of Good Friday. Trash/recycling will operate on a normal schedule. Yard waste will not pick up on Friday, but will try to hit their Friday routes early if possible.

🍩 Supporting Special Olympics
Stop in the Apex Dunkin Donuts today and help Apex PD in supporting the over 40,000 Special Olympics North Carolina athletes across our state. APD will be taking donations and selling Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics North Carolina merchandise. (They will also be there MWF next week).

🏗️ 17,599 More People
I stumbled upon the Apex Development Report yesterday and saw the date on it was updated to March 31, 2025, so I’m assuming this has been updated. Did you know the projected population for 2030 is 100,878 (compared to 83,279 in 2025) which is a 21% increase? That’s a lot more people headed our way while we have yet to truly figure out the affordable housing issue and continuous deletion of our beautiful tree canopy which is home to many wildlife. Anyway… if interested, you can see it here.

🖥️ Wake County Launches Free Online Learning Platform
Wake County Public Libraries cardholders now have free 24/7 access to thousands of on-demand video courses designed to support career growth, personal development and lifelong learning. Learn more here.

🚍️ GoApex Focus Group
On Tuesday, you can participate in a focus group for those who have previously ridden on GoApex Route 1. On Wednesday, a second focus group will take place with those who have never ridden GoApex Route 1. If interested, sign up here.

💈 Spotlight:

One of my biggest cheerleaders over the past couple of months has been Hue Delgado.

I’ve never met Hue - except through email. But he is always so kind and supportive, reaching out almost every week to pay compliments to me and the newsletter.

In an effort to return the love, I wanted to take a moment to mention his new barbershop, A Huenique Barbershop & Parlour, and encourage you to stop by (as I plan to do!) and say hello during the Grand Opening celebration this coming Tuesday at Noon.

Civil News:

📣 Increased Neighborhood Notifications
I have occasionally heard from residents regarding concerns related to neighborhood notifications about nearby projects (not a wide enough net). The Town Council has approved an amendment which increases the neighborhood notification distance from 300 feet to 500 feet.

🚦 Arriving Earlier Than Expected
The traffic light planned for Blazing Trail / Humie Olive Rd (the main way in and out of Apex Friendship HS and Apex Friendship Elementary) is planned to start as soon as the school year ends to avoid any disruptions. However, due to yet another traffic collision at the intersection, it sounds like the project has been moved up to the first week of May. Learn more here.

💡 Utility Billing Update
The review for Cycle 1 is in the comparison phase, while Cycle 2’s simulation is beginning. The Town encountered challenges in extracting legacy data from its old financial system while transitioning to the new platform. However, officials say the data itself remains sound. A final report is expected within 2 weeks and will be reviewed by the Council before findings are shared with the public.

💰️ 24-25 Budget Overview
The FY25-26 managers budget (initial draft) was presented on Tuesday and it looks like this:

The draft budget proposes 0.9 cent increase for operations, 1.6 cent increase previously scheduled from the Peakway Bridge bond, and a 4% increase in utility rates.

Make sure you follow Terry on his blog or on Facebook as I believe he will be sharing the full draft budget and more details on this today.
