👋 Good morning, Apex! Today is Thursday, November 6, 2025 and this is the 44th weekly issue of The Peak Weekly.

There’s 5 days until Veterans Day, 21 days until Thanksgiving, 38 days until Hanukkah, 49 days until Christmas, 50 days until Kwanzaa, and just 56 days left in the year 2025.

That was all good enough information for my wife to go ahead and put up our Christmas tree yesterday. Er, um, sorry… our “Fall Tree”.

But let’s not forget about 2 other very important holidays which happen today:

National Men Make Dinner Day
and National Nacho Day

Does going out to eat still count as Men Make Dinner Day?

If so, here are some of my favorite places to get nachos in Apex:

JD’s Tavern: JD’s Muchos Nachos

Mezcalito: Ultimate Nachos

Doherty’s Irish Pub: Brisket Nachos

Sushi Suyu: Tuna Nachos

Apex Wings: Ultimate Nachos

Miscellaneous:

🅿️ Saunders Lot Phase 3 to Reopen
Last I heard, Phase 3 was expected to be complete by November 7. If that holds true, the Saunders Lot construction will be complete and totally reopened tomorrow.

🐶🐈️ No Adoption Fees
From now through Sunday, all adoption fees at the Wake County Animal Center will be waived as part of the “Spooky Season, Sweet Snuggles” campaign. View the adoption gallery here.

🎃 Dig a Hole for Your Pumpkins
If you have pumpkins to get rid of, you can cut them up into small pieces and add it to your compost pile. If you have a garden, you can dig a deep hole and bury the pumpkin. It will decompose naturally and return nutrients to your soil. Or, you place them on the curb the week of Dec 1, drop them off at the Public Works Department, or place them in your trash bins.

👦👧 Support Kids’ Businesses
This Saturday from 11am-3pm at Thomas Brooks Park in Cary, is the largest children’s business fair in the triangle. The Western Wake Children’s Business Fair is a one-day marketplace for kids ages 7-16 to sell their very own products or services. It’s free and there will be shopping, food, crafts and more.

🧺 SWANEC Event
The South Wake Area Native Ecosystem Conservation is a non-profit founded by high-schoolers dedicated to removing invasive plant species and improving the environmental health of our community. On Saturday, it’s their Eco Picnic Fundraiser event which will feature teen musicians from across the surrounding area, outdoor games, and desserts. It’s from 11am-1pm at Apex Nature Park Amphitheater. They are hoping to raise funds for their local garden projects and equipment costs.

🔒️ Town Offices Closed Tuesday
All Town facilities and offices will be closed Tuesday, Nov 11th in observance of Veterans Day. Trash/Recycling will run on a regular schedule. Yard waste will be delayed one day.

🌳 Get A Free Tree
Apply to Plant the Peak to have a free tree professionally installed at your home. This year's lineup of native species includes dogwood, fringe, gem magnolia, redbud, and serviceberry. Apply here.

🎄 Get a Not-Free Tree
Christmas at Jordan Lake Farms is pure magic, but space is limited. To make sure every guest can enjoy the full experience, this year the farm is welcoming visitors by reservation only (it’s free). Reservations open up tomorrow. Christmas season opening weekend is Nov 22/23 and the 3rd Annual Tree Farm Market will be held on Nov 23 from 10am-3pm.

🚎 New GoApex Bus
The new bus replaces an older model that is now retired from full-time service.

💉 Updated COVID-19 Vaccine
Wake County Public Health is offering the updated vaccine in five clinic locations. The two closest ones are the Wake County Public Health Center in Raleigh and the Southern Regional Center in Fuquay-Varina. Appointments required. Details here.

🔵🎗️ Blue Ribbon School: AFMS
Four North Carolina public schools were announced today as inaugural statewide Blue Ribbon Schools award winners, a program created by North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) to continue the tradition of recognizing and highlighting schools that are excelling in academic success. Local Business Updates

🪴 Lichen or Knot Plant Company
The highly anticipated houseplant and decor store has opened in downtown Apex at 122 N Salem Street.

🍔 Al’s Burgers is Open
The burger shack teased us on their opening date a little bit, but it’s well-worth the wait. Al’s Burger Shack is now open at 2832 Teachey Place.

🤨 Radiant Brows and Beauty
Now open on the Harris Teeter side of Sweetwater at 2822 Teachey Place. They do not have a website nor any socials that I’ve found (the Google Result for their name is not them). But… they are open now. 10am-7pm Mon-Sat and 12pm-6pm Sunday. They do brow and lash enhancements (lash lifts and tints), threading, different types of facials, and face/body waxing. They are offering 20% off right now for new clients.

💅 Royal Nails Bar & Lounge
They are in their soft opening now. They’re offering 25% back in gift vouchers. Open Mon-Thurs 10am-7pm, Friday 9:30am-7pm, Saturday 9:30am - 6pm and Sunday 11am-5pm. Located at 2700 Stokesdale Ln #110 in Sweetwater.

🔜 Coming Soon to Sweetwater
Southern Peak Taproom and Pizzeria looks very close to opening. Potbelly, Harmony Home, Degree Wellness and the UPS Store all have construction going on inside, so it won’t be much longer on those either.

🍜 Ramyun Zip
A Certificate of Zoning Compliance at 772 West Williams Street (where Kwench used to be) was filed by Ramyun Zip. A Google search found a business of the same name in Virginia described as: the one-stop destination where you can enjoy 120 varieties of ramyun, kimbap, lunch boxes, dumplings, chicken and a wide selection of Korean snacks. A little speculation right now just based off of that filing, but sounds like this is coming soon to Apex.

📚️ Sip & Trade Events
Alleyway Bookstore is expanding their popular Sip & Trade events with more days and 20% off Mondays-Thursdays from 6pm-7:30pm. Reservations required. Details here.

Civil News:

🗳️ New Town Council Members
Congratulations to Shane, Sue and Ed. They will be officially sworn in at a special Organizational Meeting on December 3. Their first Regular Town Council Meeting with be on December 9.

🏚️ Tunstall House Update
The sewer line is scheduled to be installed over the next three weekends: 7th-9th, 14th-16th, 21st-31rd. During these times (Friday evenings and all day Sat/Sun), the Town Hall parking lot will be closed off.

🔌 Utility Billing Update
Cycle 2 customers may notice a misprint on your October bill. The date should be listed as 10/15/25 instead of 10/02/25.

📆 Meetings
There is a Planning Board Committee meeting today. Agenda here. Also, note that next week’s Town Council Meeting has been moved away from its typical Tuesday to Thursday due to Veteran’s Day. That agenda will be online by Saturday because they are always up 5 days in advance 😉

🏭️ Data Center
There is a data center meeting with the developer, Natelli Investments, on November 12th from 6pm-7pm at the New Hill Community Center. The Technical Review Committee will review the developer’s resubmittals on Nov 20. On Jan 22, a work session between the Planning Board and Town Council will take place to discuss the data center and UDO amendments. The public hearings before the planning board and town council are anticipated for some time in March

👮 Police to Citizen Dashboard
When we talk about the July 2024 cybersecurity incident, we immediately think of utility billing. But it actually affected a lot more than that. One of those things was the Police to Citizen dashboard that gave real-time crime-stats in Apex. Apex PD and the IT folks have been working hard on this and it’s just days away from being back online.

🛣️ Olive Chapel Road
NCDOT awarded a $2.1 million contract to replace a damaged culvert, relocate a water pipe and restore the road and the sidewalk. Ralph Hodge Construction Company of Wilson will begin the work this month. NCDOT said this week that they expect the road, which has been closed since August, to reopen in February.
