👋 Good Morning, Apex! Today is Thursday, April 2, 2026 and this is the 65th consecutive weekly issue of The Peak Weekly.
We traveled south of the border (South Carolina) to the lake for the week to celebrate our 14th anniversary and to let the kids splash in the pool for Spring Break.
It’s been nice to slow down for a bit, but I’m also excited to be heading back later today and looking forward to another great weekend in Apex!
Our Saturday will start with Common Grounds coffee and the Farmers Market (as usual) and then off to the Mayor’s Eggstravaganza before we head to WakeMed Soccer Park for the NC Courage game in the evening ⚽️
I also want to draw attention to World Autism Awareness Day, which is celebrated today, as well as International Children's Book Day.
There’s a really cool book called Lights Out Apex, written by an Apex author, where children can explore the Town of Apex with a dog named Dash. You can grab the book on Amazon, and I believe they carry copies of it at the Alleyway Bookstore as well.

🚜 The Peak Weekly Farm Series
Welcome to our new series all about getting to know the local farms in Apex.
From fresh produce and flowers to free-range eggs and more, there’s a lot happening right here in our community that many of us don’t even realize.
Each week, we’ll feature an Apex farm or two and showcase their offerings.
Supporting local farms is a simple way to strengthen our community, eat fresh, and feel more connected to the place we live. Visiting farm stands, picking strawberries and blueberries when in season, signing up for a CSA, or hitting up the Apex Farmers Market every Saturday morning are all great ways to support local farms and the farmers who work hard to provide freshly grown food and other products to the residents of Apex.
We hope this series helps you discover a few new favorites right around the corner.
Po Hous Farms
This article was written by The Peak Weekly’s content contributor, Susan McGrath

We’re starting the series with Po Hous Farm, a family-owned and -operated farm located at 2300 Richardson Road. Po Hous is a sprawling farm that is open from mid-April through October. They offer strawberry picking (coming soon, check out their Instagram @pohousfarm to stay up to date), a farm stand featuring a wide variety of produce all summer long, and a family-friendly pumpkin patch in the fall.
Everything they sell is grown right on their farm. They also have a small store on the property where you can buy local honey and other products. And they offer free-range eggs year-round.

During strawberry season, you can pick your own strawberries or buy a bucket of freshly picked ones. At the farm stand you’ll find over 20 varieties of produce (including cauliflower, tomatoes, zucchini, potatoes, peppers, corn, and so much more). They also sell pumpkins, mums, vegetable plants and flowers, sourdough bread, free-range eggs, homemade ice cream, honey, canned/pickled goods, BBQ sauce, cider, handmade gifts, garden flags, and Po Hous Farm merchandise.
A new addition to the farm is Highland cow experiences that offers mini photo sessions and cuddling, brushing, and feeding their Highland calf. To learn more or make an appointment, check out their website at pohousfarm.com.

So be sure to come out and support Po Hous Farm when they open for the season in mid-April! You can also find them at the Apex Farmers Market every Saturday morning, April through October.

Civic News:
👨🏻💻 New Information on the July 2024 Cyberattack
The Town of Apex announced this week that approximately 22,000 residents may have had personal data compromised in the July 2024 ransomware attack - and that the stolen data has been recovered with FBI assistance. Town Manager Randy Vosburg framed the recovery as a legal victory, noting the town secured a Temporary Restraining Order from Wake County Superior Court compelling cloud provider Bublup, Inc. to return the data.
That's the press release version. The Town's own incident disclosure page and the underlying court filing paint a far more alarming picture.
According to the Town's formal Notice of Data Incident, unauthorized actors had access to Apex's systems for ten days - from June 23 through July 2, 2024. The categories of data potentially stolen go well beyond what the WRAL coverage conveyed. The Town's disclosure lists: names, Social Security numbers, driver's license and passport numbers, financial account information, credit and debit card numbers, email addresses, usernames and passwords, dates of birth, health insurance information, medical conditions and treatment information, medical record numbers, patient account numbers, and phone numbers.
The underlying case, 24CV032253-910, filed October 9, 2024 - is publicly viewable on eCourts, and shared the Town's complaint and affidavit. The scope of what was stolen is pretty staggering.
We’ve heard a lot about the Utility department, but according to the Town's own filing, the compromised data spanned every single major department: Water/Sewer/Electric Utilities, Police, Fire and Rescue, Public Works, Planning and Inspections, Human Resources, and Finance.
The filing also states that all town services - emergency and non-emergency - were "degraded as a result of the loss of Data."
That degradation has been anything but theoretical. In the 21 months since the attack, Apex residents have dealt with missing utility bills, unexplained billing spikes, lost solar credits, and a town that suspended late fees for 19 months while overdue balances ballooned to $5.9 million. The town is now reinstating late fees and disconnections as of July 1.
The Town says there is no evidence the data reached the dark web. But does “no evidence” necessarily mean it didn’t happen?
Either way, it took nearly two years to start notifying the 22,000 people whose most sensitive information - medical records, Social Security numbers, financial accounts, passwords - was in the hands of criminal actors.
In my opinion, residents deserved to know the full scope of what was taken, and how deeply it compromised their town's operations, long before now.
With that said, Mahaffey’s data breach was also swept under the rug (with the help of the same lawfirm used here) and nobody has been notified to this day on that one, so it’s not exactly surprising to me that Vosburg would take the least transparent route available to him and then play it off like a big win.
