👋 Good morning, Apex! Today is Thursday, June 12, 2025 and this is the 23rd weekly issue of The Peak Weekly.
Here is what’s inside today:
📝 Intro: Quick thoughts from yours truly
📂 Miscellaneous: Some town-related notes that didn’t fit anywhere else
🗓️ Things to Do This Week: Events and activities this coming week in and around Apex
🏢 Local Business: The latest in local small business news
🏛️ Civil News: The latest from our local government
⏪️ ICYMI: A few things worth mentioning again, just in case you missed it
👀 A Look Ahead: A quick peak at things to know beyond this week

Intro:
Do you have paraskevidekatriaphobia?
If you do, then you are among the approximately 10% of the US population who share the same fear.
That fear, of course, is tomorrow: The fear of Friday the 13th.
The Stress Management Center and Phobia Institute in Asheville, NC once estimated that the U.S. economy loses between $800 million and $900 million on Fridays the 13th because people refuse to fly, shop, or even work.
I get it. It’s a real phobia. Stay inside tomorrow. Steer clear. Do what you gotta do.
But on Saturday the 14th (there’s no long phobia word for that) - you better get out there!
We have the 5th-Annual Pride Festival from 10am-4pm, and last-minute shopping for Father’s Day.
And if you still haven’t figured out where to take Dad for lunch/dinner… let me suggest the new Sora Sushi Ramen.
I went there for lunch yesterday and everything was excellent.
See what I got for lunch (Instagram link), and then drop them a follow!

Miscellaneous:
💼 We Are Hiring (Part-Time Summer Help)
The Peak Weekly is in need of some part-time summer help. The brief job description: manage social media, proofread these emails (I already know there’s a mistake in here somewhere), write some blog content, and occasionally go out into the community to take photos/videos for social content. 10 hours per week, $30/hour. Paid weekly. Email me if you are interested or know someone who might be: [email protected]
🎖️ Today is Women Veterans Day
Thank you to subscriber, Adina, for bringing this topic to my attention a few months ago. Women Veterans Day is observed in the US on June 12 to commemorate the anniversary of the Women’s Armed Services Integration Act enacted on June 12, 1948. I’ve been following this since then and I’m pleased to say that, a little over a week ago, the NC Governor signed a proclamation designating today as Women Veterans Day in North Carolina!
🐕️ Apex PD’s New K9
The Apex PD has added its first ever female K9 to the team. She is also their first K9 certified in explosives detection. Her name hasn’t been released yet at the time of writing this, but you can see photos of her here.
🎾 Tennis Courts Open
The newly resurfaced courts at Apex Community Park are back open.
🥒 But if it’s Too Hot Out for Tennis…
Did you know that you can play pickleball at the John M Brown Community Center? On most M/W/F, open gym for 18+ pickleball takes place from 12pm - 2pm. View the Open Gym Schedule. Additionally, you can find pickleball open play, leagues and summer camps at Peak Sports.
⚽️ Wake Women’s Soccer League
If you are a woman over 40 looking for a place to dust off the old cleats, consider joining the Wake Women’s Soccer League. They play Sunday afternoons during the spring and fall at Pleasant Park.
🎶🏀 Apex Specialized Recreation
Parks & Rec is offering two new programs designed specifically for individuals with developmental and/or physical disabilities: REFIT LITE is a new fitness program that combines music, dance & fitness taking place on June 25. Open Gym Basketball (for kids with disabilities ages 10 and under) will take place for six Saturdays this summer.
🤖 Economic Vitality
Last week, Governor Stein announced that Amazon is planning to invest $10 billion to launch a new high-tech cloud computing and artificial intelligence innovation campus in Richmond County (about 80 miles SW of here), creating at least 500 new high-paying, high-tech jobs. Yesterday, I attended TJ Evans’ Campaign Kick-Off to learn more about his message. One of his focus areas was around economic vitality and how attracting more companies & more events to Apex can fund a lot of initiatives (that’s my interpretation; please do your own research). Simultaneously, I read a story that Cary recently hosted a soccer tournament that brought in 70,000 people and an estimated $15M economic impact to their town over just six days. My opinion: we need more of this in Apex. 🤷♂️

I actually made this logo for them when they were opening up.
So the next time you walk/drive by The Cranky Yankee on the corner of Salem/Chatham, I hope you’ll think about me 😉
But moreso… I hope you’ll walk inside and #treatyoself to some of her incredible desserts! She’s crazy talented and the staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful.
