👀 A Look Ahead: A quick peak at things to know beyond this week

Intro:
I just want to say thank you to everyone who stopped by The Peak Weekly booth at Peakfest on Saturday.
It was so nice to meet so many of you in person.
Also, hello and welcome to all of you who subscribed on Saturday!
I appreciate you all so much for your support and for taking time out of your Thursday each week to read through this.
I have to give two more shoutouts real quick:
👩🦰 To the Wife:
Shoutout to my wife for helping me prepare, put it all together, and for waking up with me at 6am on a Saturday.
She made my Peak Weekly t-shirt, set up the crafting station for the kids who came by, got all the candy to hand out (which was just as popular with the adults as it was the kids), and spent the whole day chatting people up, bringing them over to the booth, and telling them all about The Peak Weekly.
All of the credit goes to her ❤️
🚑️ And, to the First Responders:
If you happened to be on the south end of the festival in the early afternoon, you may have seen some commotion that ended up with an ambulance on the scene.
That was my daughter. She had a little fainting episode. (She’s all good!)
But I did want to just shout out Apex PD who got Apex FD there quickly, who were incredible. And to the EMTs that arrived and took care of her. And to Jeff from Peakfest who was right there with his support as well and came to check in with us afterwards. Everyone was incredible.
And, lastly, a thank you to the ER Nurse who was right there helping out until AFD arrived. By the time the commotion ended, I couldn’t find her to say thank you. So if by chance you are a subscriber… thank you!!
I’m so grateful for this Apex community 🫶

Miscellaneous:
🌀 Hurricane Preparedness Week
The word “hurricane” originates from the Taino Native American word, “hurucane”, which means “evil spirit of the wind.” That won’t help you prepare for hurricanes, but signing up for ReadyWake Alerts will!

🏞️ Parks & Rec

🦚 Carl is Doing Great
I ran into Carl last night on my evening walk. For those who don’t know, Kevin the Peacock was a pretty popular mascot in town for quite a while. A couple years ago, Kevin was sadly struck by a car. But his brother Carl keeps the legacy alive. His home is over near Old US Hwy 1 & Friendship Rd but he’s a free-roaming Peacock who spent last summer over here in Salem Village. And it looks like he’ll be spending this summer over here too. He looks well-rested from the winter, and handsome as ever.

🔦 Spotlight:

My across-the-street neighbors at Peakfest were the fine folks from Mathnasium. My kids attended Mathnasium a couple years back and it was tremendously valuable for them. They actually enjoyed learning there and the Mathnasium team got them up to speed very quickly.
But despite a couple years passing, their Center Director, Sam, looked across the way and noticed us. He remembered all of the kids, their names, and came over to see how they were doing.
Awesome people doing really awesome things. If you have a kid who could use a little help in math, don’t even think twice: https://www.mathnasium.com/math-centers/apex

💡 Utility Billing Update
A couple of weeks ago, it was announced in a town hall meeting that a final report on the utility billing audit was due within 2 weeks. That’s right about now. It will be shared with the Town Council before being made public, but I would expect that to be any day now. If you visit the Updates Page, it tells you to go to the Utility Account page, “which has been, and continues to be, updated frequently”. That page then says that it will, “be updated regularly throughout the review process.” However, it hasn’t been updated even one time over the past 15 days during the review process. That’s pretty par for the course. I’ll include an update as soon as I see one.
