👋 Good morning, Apex! Today is Thursday, July 31st, 2025 and this is the 30th weekly issue of The Peak Weekly.

To help you prepare for the month of August, here’s some quick trivia:

August is National Dog Month. Make sure to spoil your pup. And if you don’t have a dog… go adopt one right now.

August 3 in National Watermelon Day. Ignore this one. Watermelon is gross. I’ll die on that hill.

August 13 is International Left-Handers Day. Shoutout to Justin Bieber, Ned Flanders and the 10-12% of you reading this email.

August 23 is Find Your Inner Nerd Day. Um, I guess I’ll try… 🤓

The Sandwich turns 262 years old. The first sandwich was allegedly made on August 6, 1762 and was given the Lord of Sandwich’s name.

It consisted of meat placed between two slices of bread, which he requested because he was in the middle of a gambling game and did not want to interrupt it.

Speaking of games… have you ever played Bingo? How about Music Bingo?

If you like Bingo… this is about to be the most exciting week of you’re life.

Miscellaneous:

🦸‍♂️ Hometown Hero
Apex Friendship High School Resource Officer, Jason Stone, was recognized as this week’s QDR Hometown Hero of the Week.

🏡 Housing Supply Expansion
As home sales dropped to their lowest level in nine months in June, and prices hit an all-time high, NC Sen. Tillis introduced bipartisan legislation to increase the housing supply and reduce costs by introducing The Housing Supply Expansion Act of 2025.

💉 Back-to-School Vaccine Clinics
North Carolina law requires specific vaccines for children entering kindergarten, 7th grade and 12th grade. Wake County Public Health is hosting a series of vaccine clinics to help students get the immunizations they need as they head back to class. See dates and locations here.

🫒 A Bloody World Record
On August 9th at 11am, 26 individuals will arrive from Texas to witness The Blind Pelican Seafood House (Holly Springs) attempt to set the Guinness World Record for the largest Ultimate Bloody Mary.

✈️ RDU Recreation & Wellness
RDU has selected a preferred developer to explore options for creating a recreation and wellness destination on 136 acres of airport land near Aviation Parkway & I-40. The first public workshop to gather community input will take place on August 19 (time TBD).

🏛️ Cary’s Special Town Hall
Last week, our neighbors conducted a Special Town Hall meeting. It was an interactive event open to the public with a focus on community updates and civic engagement. You could submit questions in advance, it kicked off with some trivia icebreakers, they provided light refreshments, and activities and snacks for children making it a family-friendly event. Pretty cool idea in my opinion. If you’re curious what they’re up to in Cary, you can see the presentation slides here.
